Journalist, Jesse Eisenger, from ProPublica talks on Democracy Now! about an article he wrote that appeared in NPR News about Freddie Mac betting on struggling homeowners. They would lose money if a lot of people were able to get refinances. At the same time, they made it harder for people to get those refinances because they are key gatekeepers of who gets loans, even though they are suppose to exist to help people get loans. He comments on Newt Gingrich, although he does not appear in the article, saying that he has run into political trouble because his involvement with Freddie Mac appears like lobbying.

ADBUSTERS OCCUPY CALL TBP012712

Adbusters has called on 50,000 people from around the planet to occupy a summit by the G8 and NATO. Adbusters put a list of demands in their call to occupy the summit. Some occupy protesters didn't take well to the news that Adbusters spoke for the movement. They also blame Adbusters for taking credit for the occupation, even though it has already been in the works. Some occupiers hold to a commitment for the movement to remain leaderless and fear that Adbusters infringed on that.

The reliable estimate is that $3 billion will be spent on political ads and be paid to broadcasters on this election. Aaron talks about how these ads are misleading, and how the broadcasters don't spend the money to make the election make sense to the American people, but instead get rich by perpetuating a misinformed electorate.

Juan Gonzalez from Democracy Now! discusses his article that appeared in the New York Daily News on Friday about the Treasury Deptartment approving large paydays for executives who work for the firms that received tarp bailout money. Despite the $500K limit that was suppose to be in place by the Treasury Dept., executives at as many as fort-nine of these firms demanded and received salaries from $5 million and up. Gonzalez quoted the CEO of Allied Financial, who said that one of his executives would have been made cash poor by taking a salary cut from $1 million to $500K, and not be able to pay his monthly bills.
